CoPilot - Aviation Flight Planning App Reviews

Unstable. Doesnt worth the 20$ asked.

Im a commercial pilot and though this app would be great for flight planning. An advice : wait until there is a stable and proven flight planning application before spending money on this one. This app is unstable and doesnt deserve a penny until they fix all the bugs. Pro Look sharp Cons Totally unstable (act like a alpha or beta version of a software) Not user friendly Very few aircrafts in the database, so you have to make you own EXPENSIVE No demo version Conclusion This is an unfinished product and doesnt worth whats being ask for.

CoPilot

One of my favourite applications on my Palm Pilot is, in my estimation, even better on the iPhone. I use the application daily in my work, and with the addition of the variable fuel arms, I no longer need my stand alone program for W&B. I downloaded a generic C208 and was able to enter all the data for the Grand Caravan, that I fly, into the program and found it accurate and thus very useful. If you are looking for a nearly perfect, (weather integration?) all around flight planning application, this is a excellent investment. This program has been around, in different versions and OS, for years and we get to benefit from all the continuing support and improvements. Well done..

An Exceptional Flight Aid

Like any new software it takes some effort to learn, the W&B is tricky to set up but well worth the effort and an excellent safety feature. The plane data base is neat and will only get better as more people submitt their data, be careful here there are errors in some of the submissions and even aircraft of the same type vary. I found it great for flight planning it pulls in data nicely, and overall well worth the $20 AB Clarke CNY3

Good and useful

Simple and traditional for flight planning. No need more, no need maps. At 19.99$, new version is a little bit expansive in my opinion. . Nice application at all

Very good.

Great app, easy enough a monkey could use it. Just wish the input screen for the numbers would use just the number pad of the calculatior instead of the tiny numbers from txting.

Great planner!

Easy to use. Weather integration pulls in wind speeds, resulting in very accurate headings and times. Fuel calculations are also accurate once youve entered in your aircraft performance data. I use Flight Wizard on the desktop and this app gives identical results.

Great Back-up Navigation Tool

I love this app. It provides fantastic value when compared with other apps out there providing similar functionality. And of course most important of all, it has coverage for Canadian airspace. I have it installed on my first gen Touch and use the Bad Elf GPS plug-in module with it. I just returned from a trip that allowed me to fully test its capability. The moving map does not display full terrain and obstacles etc, but at doing the job for which it is intended, it performed flawlessly. The job intended is assisting with flight planning and providing a reliable back-up aviation GPS. I compared the calculated speeds and headings with those determined from other E6B tools and found distances, times, speeds and headings to be very accurate. It takes a bit of time setting up all the configuration options, but once you do, setting up a "Trip" is very easy. Set up everything ahead of time and then just plug in the latest weather information just before departure. Turn it on and select your trip, select the flight and then turn on the "Nav" feature to track your journey on the moving map.

Copilot

This is one of those Apps that should be 0.99 cents. Not optimized for the IPad.

Great tool!

Great tool! But like any great tool you have to learn how to use it, or in this case set-up/configure it. At $20 its a touch on the expensive side but I know that decent app development is difficult and it needs to be worth the developers time - Id encourage any GA pilot to purchase and use. I first purchased for my touch and was disappointed (old version of the app too), but when I switched to an iPhone I gave it another try an love it. I planned a flight from my home base to the airport near a friends cottage in 2 minutes flat - complete with full and current Wx!!! Testing various routes against my hand calc plans has proven it to be accurate. A basic data base of common aircraft would help - but since each aircraft has its own performance nuances and weight and balance due to equipment its better for everyone if the pilot/owner configures their own aircraft profile. Theres a minor list of things that would be great for the developer to address (such as select your cruise speed for a given leg instead of defaulting to the primary profile speed) but these dont present a huge frustration and with more users the developer might be indented to tackle these minor issues. I would love to see an iPad friendly app (now that Ive also adopted an iPad) a revised interface to be more current with the latest generation of apps, but these are just wishes. Overall a great ap (especially on 3G devices when you sign up for the free Wx info) - one that I plan on using regularly for the foreseeable future. Thanks!!!!!!! James (C-GJTP)

Great tool for flight instructors!

Still no iPad version?

Easy

Great and easy tool that gets you in the ball park every time. Measured against in flight fms, works very well

Question

Is it possible to add own waypoints not from database? To plan VFR flight? Does it have option to add VOR bearings at chosen waypoints?

Ottima

Nice application. I use it each time i fly. I hope that The iPad version will be in The shop very soon!

Found the W&B calculator!!

At first I was very disappointed in this program because I could not find the W&B calculator. I FINALLY found it, so I think this is a great program now. The only improvement I would make to this program is to bring the W&B calculator to the main screen so it is easy to find and use without having to create a proposed flight. As it is now, you have to create a proposed flight first, then the W&B button is buried in there somewhere.

nice app

duat or duats download would be a nice improvement. still using flitestar with navlog printout until then. winds aloft updates should be automatic. imho

Im keeping mine

Thank you! Pilot and former Palm user.

Weight & Balance calculations

After a couple hours of loading data into CoPilot, including all the relevant W&B data, I have not been able to get a W&B calculation. Please tell me what I am dong wrong.

Retire your Palm...

Ive been using CoPilot for several years on the Palm platform. It was the Best - bar none. Now that it is available on the iPHone, I can thankfully retire my Palm... Thanks Laurie...

The only reason I regretted trading in my Treo is now addressed!

Ecstatic to see this come out for the iPhone, but I can’t give it 5 stars because when this was ported to the iPhone I was hoping to see some new features to take advantage of device capabilities (i.e. location services/GPS) for tracking actual flight paths, FAA airport diagrams & local services, nearby airports, submitting flight plans, weather imagery, etc. I would gladly pay $100+ for an app if they would incorporate all of the features now found on other general aviation iPhone apps, maybe a PRO version that consolidates all these programs into one. Looking forward to the updates, and still very happy I have this program on my phone again!!

This is the one!!!

This app has been so useful! I spent about 3 days learning & setting it up (slow learner). Im finishing up the rest of my ratings now & this co-pilot app has been perfect for re-checking my work! I bought all the aviation apps just to play with something fun & this one is actually very functional. Weather would be cool, but there are 3 great weather apps to use for now so well get by. Thank you! Ps. If your weight & balance is off make sure your POH is using the same arm or moment as the app. I had to convert it, then it all made sense.
