CoPilot - Aviation Flight Planning App Reviews

Copilot is an elegant application that does what it says it is going to do. The Intuitive user interface stores and allows easy editing of flight plans. I get to quickly determine if a flight is possible and safe, then enter current wind information just before takeoff and make sure it is still safe. When my passengers show up, I can quickly check the loading and be ready to fly with confidence. Then I get a kneeboard printout for the cockpit! Since I fly to remote airports, I don’t need connectivity to use this app, which is GREAT. I don’t understand reviewers that are upset that an app doesn’t do what it didn’t say it would do. Those reviewers that want downloadable AFD information can have that for $75 PER YEAR. Weather is available with lots free apps, but only when connected.

I and many other pilots have watched Laurie take this nice app from a free palm flight planner to a still cheap first pass planner that can be used without any connectivity at all. If you want ALL the bells and whistles then dont get this app. It is not, nor does it pretend to be a corporate or rich guys planner. It works good enough for my C-172 planning on the fly and thats just what I want. Yes I use flight prep, fore flight, etc. for hard core planning, weather, charts, etc but co-pilot is still my first choice go/no go tool, especially with iPhone. Do you want additions (within reason) or changes? Then do what Ive done in the past - support the efforts to keep the app cheap enough to purchase AND provide kind and helpful feedback to the developer as I have done in the past with good response.

Ive been a CoPilot user since the Palm T/X days, and I guess I have a warm spot in my heart for this app. But fer gawds sake, its time for a serious upgrade in functionality and display capability. CoPilot has the "internals" to be everything that ForeFlight and WingX is. CoPilot should have been an early leader in this game.

As simple as possible, but not simpler! This is a great application that is well worth it. An iPad version would be great!

Flight planning is a breeze. I was able to create a multi-flight, multi-leg flight plan in 10 minutes. Once you configure an aircraft and sign up for the free weather link, you get the full range of performance computations. Whats more, if you specify an alternate (or two), the app will calculate your fuel burn and reserves to both alternates! Weight and balance—couldnt be easier. These are impressive capabilities given the price of the app.

Overall, this is a very good flight planning app. It can be a bit difficult to configure and the instructions could be more thorough.

Ive been using this app on my various iPhone models over the past 3 years and its been a great time saver. My old man prefers to do flight planning old school style and it has been awesome to compare notes with him, especially when my planning took less than 5min on my phone whereas his took over half an hour. I guess the functioning takes a little time to figure out, hence the reluctance of my dad to use it on his phone, but either than that, it does exactly what it is supposed to. A full iPad version would be awesome!

Ive been using this app since it was a Palm based program. I fly a number of aircraft on a regular basis, and have taken the time to input performance and W&B info for all of them. I havent found anything that beats CoPilot for those quick plans, especially the W&B portion. I also like to use it to check my students flight planning. Give it a try. No its not Foreflight but for the price you cant beat it.
