Great Back-up Navigation Tool

I love this app. It provides fantastic value when compared with other apps out there providing similar functionality. And of course most important of all, it has coverage for Canadian airspace.

I have it installed on my first gen Touch and use the Bad Elf GPS plug-in module with it. I just returned from a trip that allowed me to fully test its capability. The moving map does not display full terrain and obstacles etc, but at doing the job for which it is intended, it performed flawlessly. The job intended is assisting with flight planning and providing a reliable back-up aviation GPS. I compared the calculated speeds and headings with those determined from other E6B tools and found distances, times, speeds and headings to be very accurate.

It takes a bit of time setting up all the configuration options, but once you do, setting up a "Trip" is very easy. Set up everything ahead of time and then just plug in the latest weather information just before departure. Turn it on and select your trip, select the flight and then turn on the "Nav" feature to track your journey on the moving map.
